MoRTH issues a draft amendment to modify the technical requirements as prescribed in the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) -145

Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on September 22, 2022, issued the draft amendment to modify the technical requirements as prescribed in the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) -145, wherein the scope of the standard has been enlarged to provide seat belt reminder for all the passengers occupying front facing rear seat, in order to be aligned with the international regulation UNR-16.

It has been stated that visual and audio warning is activated when the ignition switch is engaged (engine running or not) and the front-facing occupants’ safety belt is not fastened. The second level of warning is activated when a driver operates a vehicle without fastening the driver and /or front-facing seat occupants’ safety belts.
