UPPCB revises the categorization of industrial sectors

EHS ComplianceThe Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) on July 08, 2020 has revised the categorization of industrial sectors under green, red, orange and white zones based on pollution index under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. 

Following categorization has been done: 

• Industrial sectors having pollution index score of 60 and above shall come in the red category.

• Industrial sectors having pollution index score of 41 and 59 shall come in the Orange category.

• Industrial sectors having pollution index score of 21 and 40 shall come in the Green category.

• Industrial sectors having pollution index score of 20 and above shall come in the white category.

• All the SPCB’s are directed to adopt these categorizations for the following sectors: 

1. Scrapping Sectors (for End of life of vehicles and other scraps such as plant and machineries, railway coaches, wagons etc.)

2. Used cooking oil (UCO) collection centres. 

3. Compressed or refined bio- gas production from Bio-degradable wastes. 

4. Railway statio
