The Governor of Bihar on January 12, 2022 has issued The Bihar Municipal (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022 to further amend the Bihar Municipal Act, 2007. This shall come into force on January 12, 2022.
The following amendments have been made namely: -
• Section 23 which specify “Election of Chief Councillor and Deputy Chief Councillor” has been substituted namely: -
“A Chief Councillor and Deputy Chief Councillor of the Municipality shall be directly elected by the voters enrolled in the voter’s list of that Municipality under the direction, control and supervision of the State Election Commission, who shall assume office forthwith after taking the oath of secrecy under section 24”
• Section 25 which specify “Removal of Chief Councillor/Deputy Chief Councillor” has been substituted namely: -
“The Chief Councillor and Deputy Chief Councillor may resign his office by writing under his hand addressed to the Government.”
