The Governor of Maharashtra on March 17, 2022 has issued Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) (Amendment) Act, 2022 to further amend the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017.
The following has been amended namely: -
• Section 1(3) which specify “Applicability of the Act” has been substituted namely: -
“(a) The provisions of this Act, except section 7, shall apply to the establishments employing ten or more workers.
(b) The provisions of sections 7 and 36A shall apply to the establishments employing less than ten workers”
• Section 17 which specify “Furnishing of Identity Card” has been omitted.
• Section 36A has been inserted namely: -
“(1) The Name Board of every establishment registered undersection 6, or of every establishment to which section 7 apply, shall be in Marathi language in Devnagari script
Provided that, the employer of such establishment may also have the Name Board in any other language and script in addition to Marathi in Devnagari script
Provided further that, lettering in Marathi language shall essentially be written in the beginning on the Name Board and the fontsize of the letters in Marathi Language shall not be smaller than thefont size of the letters in any other language.
(2) No establishment where liquor is served or sold shall have aName Board in the name of legends or forts”
