The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAFPD) on March 28, 2022 has issued the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Amendment Rules, 2022 to further amend the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. This shall come into force on October 1, 2022.
The following has been stated namely: -
• In Rule 1(2) which specify “Date of coming into force” the following has been substituted namely: -
“1st Day of October, 2022”
• In Rule 6 which specify “Declarations to be made on every package” sub-rule (11) has been substituted namely: -
“The unit sale price in rupees, rounded off to the nearest two decimal place, shall be declared on every pre-packaged commodity”
• Rule 33 which specify “Power to relax” sub-rule (2) has been omitted
• The Second Schedule which specify “Commodities to be packed in specified quantities” has been omitted.
