Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Karnataka on June 10, 2022 has issued The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022 to further amend Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Act, 2020. This has come into force on June 10, 2022.

The following has been amended namely: -

• Section 7 which specifies “Delimitation of Wards”, under sub-section (3) a new clause (d) has been inserted namely: -

“Such number of seats which shall as nearly as may be, one third of the total number of seats to be filled by direct election in the corporation shall be reserved for persons belonging to the Backward Classes”

• Section 8(3) which specifies “Constitution of the Corporation”, the proviso has been substituted namely: -

“The number of seats so reserved for the Backward Classes under this sub-section shall be so determined, that the total number of seats reserved for the Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes and the Backward Classes under sub-sections (2) and (3) shall not exceed fifty percent of the total number of seats in the Corporation.”
