The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on September 07, 2022 has issued Recommendations on “Market Structure/Competition in Cable TV services”
The following has been stated namely: -
• After considering the Comments, Counter-comments and Open House Discussion the final recommendations have been published.
• The following are the salient features namely: -
1. It has been recommended that no corrective measures are required to enhance the level of competition in cable TV distribution sector.
2. The Government has been recommended to take suitable measures to facilitate and promote sharing of cable infrastructure by Local cable operator with Telecom Service Providers to enable last mile for provision of broadband services.
3. The Cable Television Networks (Regulation), Act 1995 may be amended to indicate that “Cable operators may strive to prove last mile access to Access service providers/Internet Service Providers in a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory manner for proliferation of broadband services.”
