Finance & Taxation ComplianceThe Government of Karnataka on October 11, 2022, issued the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (Amendment) Act, 2022 to further amend the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Act, 2020. 

The following amendments have been stated:

In section 7 which specifies ‘Delimitation of Wards’ in sub-section (3), after clause (c), the sub-section (d) has been inserted, namely: -

“(d) Such number of seats which shall as nearly as may be, one third of the total number of seats to be filled by direct election in the Corporation shall be reserved for persons belonging to the Backward Classes.” And 

in the proviso, for the words, figure and brackets “under sub-section (2) and the Backward Classes under this sub-section shall not exceed one third of the total number of seats in the Corporation”, the words “and the Backward Classes under this sub-section shall not exceed fifty percent of the total number of seats in the Corporation” has been substituted.

• In section 8 which specifies ‘Constitution of the Corporation’ in sub-section (3), in the first proviso, for the words, figure and brackets “under sub-section (3) and the Backward Classes under this sub-section shall not exceed one third of the total number of seats in the Corporation”, the words, figures and brackets “and the Backward Classes under sub-sections (2) and (3) shall not exceed fifty percent of the total number of seats in the Corporation” has been substituted.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022 is hereby repealed.
