The University Grants Commission (UGC) on October 10, 2022, notifies the University Grants Commission (Conferment of Autonomous Status Upon Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Autonomous Colleges) Regulations, 2022 to further amend University Grants Commission (Conferment of Autonomous Status Upon Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Autonomous Colleges) Regulations, 2018.
These regulations give autonomous colleges the ability to choose and prescribe their own courses of study and syllabi, as well as to restructure and remodel courses to meet local needs and align them with job requirements.
The autonomous college may establish its own admission requirements, improve techniques for evaluation, hold exams and announce results, support research in pertinent areas, etc. With the introduction of the National Education Policy (NEP), in 2020, higher education in the nation is undergoing a significant transition. With the assistance of an Expert Committee, UGC evaluated the current regulations to bring them into compliance with NEP, 2020's suggestions.
