Government of Kerala revises the minimum wages for employees employed in the oil palm plantation industry

Labour ComplianceThe Government of Kerala on July 26, 2022, revises the minimum wages for employees employed in the oil palm plantation industry.

The following wages have been revised-

•For skilled workers, working in harvesting, pruning carrying works, and pollination the daily wage is Rs. 890.

•For factory workers the daily wage is Rs. 890.

•For semiskilled workers, working in loading, and unloading works the daily wage is Rs. 840.

•For unskilled workers, working in deforesting, fertilizer loading, applying manure, and other allied works the daily wage is Rs. 790.

The following will be considered for computing Dearness Allowances -

The Consumer Price Index (C.P.I.) of the most recent series, 2011-12-100, issued by the Economics and Statistics Department of the Government of Kerala, will be considered. The regulation of Dearness Allowance shall apply to the tri-monthly period. According to the Consumer Price Index (C.P.I) published for the relevant District Headquarters, Dearness Allowance will be provided at a rate of Rs. 2.30 per point per day for increases beyond 165 points in the average index of each trimonthly.

The following will be considered for workload-

•For harvesting the quantity of palm fruit bunch to be harvested by a harvesting team consisting of one cutter and one carrier for one wage shall be 1000 kilograms in season and 500 kilograms in non-seasons.

•For pruning the number of palms to be pruned for one wage shall be the following:

I.5 to 9 years old palms are 55 in number

II.10 to 15 years old palms are 50 in number.

III.16 to 20 years old palms are 35 in number.

IV.21 to 25 years old palms are 30 in number.

V.26 to 30 years old palms are 15 in number.

VI.Above 30 years old palms are 10 in number.

The existing workload will be continued till a decision is taken on the report of the workload study committee.

The general conditions are-

•Employees of any business or industry who are currently receiving higher pay than the minimum wage outlined in this notification shall be eligible to continue receiving those higher rates.

•Employees in any post or category of an establishment not listed in the schedule above are nevertheless eligible for the minimum wage for a similar post or category.

•The amount is the daily pay of the appropriate section multiplied by 26 if the monthly wages for the category of employees for whom the daily wage is established in the schedule must be calculated.
