class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) on October 18, 2022, issued a circular providing cover for Mental Illness under Health Insurance policies with reference to the circular Ref. No. IRDAI/HLT/MISC/CIR/128/08/2018 dated August 16, 2018.
It is stated that all insurance products must cover mental illness and comply with the provisions of the Mental Health Care Act, 2017, without any deviation.
The reference is also drawn to the Authority’s communication Ref. No. 327/IRDAI/HLT/GEN/MHCA/2018-19 dated May 21, 2021, which stated that all the insurance products that are in force on or after the date of the Mental Health Care Act, 2017, coming into force shall be deemed to provide cover for Mental Illness diseases.
It is hereby requested to the insurers to ensure compliance before October 31, 2022.
