The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on October 20, 2022, issued a notification regarding special drives to check adulteration of sweets, savories, milk, and milk products like Khoya, Paneer, etc. during the festive Season.
The demand for milk and milk products like Khoya, Paneer, etc. rises during the national holiday season, which raises the economic incentive to adulterate these products to satisfy the consumer's escalating expectations. Preventive measures, such as carrying out specialized surveillance and enforcement drives by the Food Safety Officers or Designated Officers, particularly at hot spots of such practices under their respective jurisdictions, can be an effective tool to stop such practices while guaranteeing the safety of such products.
It is requested that during the current holiday season in your respective jurisdictions, strict vigilance be maintained on the production and sale of sweets, savory foods, milk, and milk products like Khoya, Paneer, etc. by conducting frequent surveillance and enforcement drives, including positioning of Food Safety on Wheels (FSW), where available, in the famous markets and based on specific intelligence input, etc., to ensure that such products are safe to consume.
