SEBI issued a consultation paper on the Review of the Regulatory Framework for Sponsors of a Mutual Fund

Secretarial ComplianceThe Securities Exchange Board of Board (SEBI) on January 13, 2023, issued a circular regarding a consultation paper on the Review of the Regulatory Framework for Sponsors of a Mutual Fund. 

The following has been stated namely: -

• The objective of this consultation paper is to seek comments/views of the public on the proposals intending to review the regulatory framework for sponsor(s) of a mutual fund so as to explore the possibility of enabling a diverse set of entities, who otherwise may not have been eligible, to be associated with mutual funds with requisite safeguards in place.

• It states the definition of the term “sponsor” and lays down the eligibility criteria for sponsors of a mutual fund

• It mentions the provisions related to Private Equity Funds/ Pooled Investment Vehicles/ Pooled Investment Funds (PE) as Sponsor

• It states the Role of the Sponsor after AMC matures.

Comments are invited from the members of the public on the above issues in order to take into consideration the concern of various stakeholders while finalizing the proposals.

 Comments may be sent by email to sponsor public comments @sebi.gov.in or to Ms. Kritika, Assistant Manager ([email protected]) on or before January 29,  2023,  with the subject line “Comments on  Consultation  Paper on  Review of Regulatory Framework for Sponsors of a Mutual Fund”.

The comments should be sent by email in an MS Excel file in the prescribed format.
