The Government of Meghalaya on January 30, 2023, issued a notification regarding amending the Meghalaya Minor Minerals Reclamation Fund Management Guidelines, 2022.
The following has been amended namely: -
• In Clause 7 which states “Utilization of environmental reclamation fee and interest accrued thereon”
(i) in sub-clause 7 (1) (b), between the words "wildlife habitats" and "wildlife corridors", the word "biodiversity" shall be inserted.
(ii) in clause 7 (2), after sub-clause (1) a new sub-clause (m) shall be added, namely: -
"(m) Survey, conservation, preservation, documentation and protection of biodiversity".
(iii) in clause 7 (3), in sub-clause (a), between the words "wildlife corridors" and "and environment", the word "bio-diversity" shall be inserted.
(iv) in clause 7 (3), after sub-clause (e), a new sub-clause (f) shall be added, namely: -
"(f) Survey, conservation, preservation, documentation and protection of biodiversity."
(v) in clause 7 (4), in sub-clause (e), between the words "sacred groves" and "important" the word "biodiversity" shall be inserted.
(vi) in clause 7 (4), in sub-clause (g), between the words "communities" and "and private owners", the word "Bio-diversity Management Committees (BMCs)" shall be inserted.
(vii)in clause 7 (4), in sub-clause (h), between the words "minimize pressure on forest" and "and wildlife", the word "bio-diversity" shall be inserted.
• In clause 26 which states “Agencies eligible to receive money from the fund” (1), after sub-clause (ix), the following new sub-clause shall be added, namely: -
" (x) Meghalaya Biodiversity Board."
• In clause 26 which states “Accounts and Audit of the Fund” in sub-clause (4), for the words "State Government", the word "Authority" shall be substituted.
