The University Grants Commission, (UGC) on February 21, 2023, issued a notification regarding the General Guidelines for Enabling Academic Institutes in Technical Textiles- for Private & Public Institutes.
The following have been stated namely: -
• The Government of India is implementing the National Textiles Mission (NTTM) with an outlay of Rs. 1480 crore for the period 2020-21 to 2023-24, with the following components namely: -
(i) Component-I: Research, innovation, and Development
(ii) Component-II: Promotion Market Development
(iii) Component-III: Export Promotion
(iv) Component IV: Education, Training, Skill Development
• Under Component IV of NTTM aims to enhance the level of education in Technical Textiles of UG/PG level and to ensure that adequate talent and skill sets are developed in the segment, the Ministry of Textiles has launched 'General Guidelines for Enabling of Academic institutes in Technical Textiles- for private & public institutes.
• These guidelines cover the funding for the upgradation/enhancement of laboratory equipment, training lab personnel, and specialized training of Faculty members of the relevant department/specialization in the university/institute. Both publicly funded and private institutions with NIRF ranking will be eligible for support.
• The detailed General Guidelines are available on the official website of the Ministry of Textiles under the NTTM web page https://www.texmin.nic.in/technical-textiles-mission and are attached in the Annexure
• It states that higher education institutions are requested to develop a curriculum in the field of technical textiles to participate in this scheme by submitting their proposals. Details of courses offered by IIT Delhi which offers full-time courses in Textile Engineering are enclosed as Annexure.
