The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on March 28, 2023, notified regarding the System and Procedure for Compliance to Revised Emission Standards for Power Generating Set Engines (Up-to Gross Mechanical Power 800 KWs).
The following has been stated:
• The emission of gaseous and particulate pollutants from following distinct internal combustion engines categories and fuel options operating with either constant speed duty cycle or variable speed duty cycle,
o Diesel engines
o Dedicated alternate fuels
o Bi-fuel runs either on Gasoline or on any one of the alternate fuels
o Dual Fuel run on Diesel and any of the alternate fuels
o Portable Generator sets (PI engines below 19kW and up to 800 cc displacement) run on Gasoline fuel, dedicated alternate fuels and Bi-fuel run either on Gasoline or on any one of the alternate fuels
• This document is divided into four main parts A1, A2, A3 & A4 for ease of handling & to refer to the industry and test agency as per the following:
o Part A1: Applicable for all Compression Ignition Engines
o Part A2: Applicable for Positive Ignition Engines (above 800 cc displacement)
o Part A3: Applicable for Portable Generator sets (PI engines below 19kW and up to 800 cc displacement)
o Part A4: Safety code of practice
• The details covered in each above part (except A4) are as under:
o Exhaust emission limits, applicability & other requirements
o Certification system and procedure
o Test equipment & Test procedure
