The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on April 11, 2023, issued a Direction under Section 16(5) of the FSSAI Act, 2006 regarding the re-operationalization of the Draft Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations with respect to the standards of Fortified Rice Kernel.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The FSSAI had framed the Draft Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations w.r.t the standards of Fortified Rice Kernel and the same was draft notified in the Gazette of India on May 25, 2022.
• It states that The draft standards were operationalized vide direction dated June 23, 2022 The provisions in the draft amendment regulations are in the process of final notification which is likely to take further more time for finalization & publication in the Gazette of India and in order to strengthen the National level fortification program and its implementation, it has been decided to re-operationalize the provisions for Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK), Vitamin & Mineral Premix for FRK and Rice Flour used for making FRK with effect from December 23, 2022. However, the provisions with respect to the Yeast and Mould Count and Aerobic Plate Count parameter of 'Rice flour for the preparation of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK)' stand withdrawn from the date of issue of this direction.
