The Government of Goa on April 18, 2023, issued the Goa Restriction on Transfer of Agricultural Land Act, 2023.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It extends to the whole of the State of Goa
• The restriction on the transfer of agricultural land has been stated
• The Cases where the act does not apply have been stated namely: -
1. A mortgage of agricultural land for raising a loan for effecting any improvement to the agricultural land
2. An acquisition of the right to agricultural land by inheritance
3. Transfer of agricultural land by operation of law
• Whoever contravenes the provisions of section 3 by transferring the agricultural land, the transferor as well as the transferee of them, shall be punished with a fine equivalent to the market value of such land to be determined as per the rates fixed by the Government for such land.
It shall come into force on April 18, 2023.
