Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on April 24, 2023, issued a notification regarding the Proof documents for issuance of driving license and registration certificate.

The following has been stated namely: -

• It states that Rule 4 of Central Motor Vehicle Rule, 1989 provides for documents that can be submitted as proof of correctness of address and age for obtaining a Driving License.

• It states that rule 47 pertains to the application for registration of motor vehicles wherein the proof of address shall be one of the documents referred to in rule 4. Additionally, proof of identity of the nominee is to be submitted in case the nominee is mentioned.

• It further states that as a facilitative measure to citizens, this Ministry has developed a proposal to expand the set of documents that are to be submitted as Proof of Identity Proof of Address, and Proof of Age/Date of Birth for the issue of driving license and registration certificate. 

• In this regard, reference has been taken from the list of acceptable documents for the updation of the Aadhaar issued by UIDAI.

• The proposed list of acceptable documents for Proof of Identity, Proof of Address, and Proof of Age/ DOB in case of driving license and registration certificate has been attached as Annexure 1.

• It is requested to please provide observations and suggestions on the proposal by May 10, 2023,  at the email [email protected]
