The Directorate of Disaster Management, Andaman and Nicobar Administration on April 21, 2023, issued a notification regarding the Public/telecast News Item on Safety Tips for Earthquake.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Before the Earthquake: -
1. Consult a structural engineer to make your house earthquake resilient
2. Prepare an emergency kit with essential items for safety and survival
3. Learn the technique of ‘Duck-Cover-Hold’
• During the Earthquake: -
1. Move outside as soon as the tremors stop. Do not use the lift.
2. When in a structurally safe building, stay inside until the shaking stops
3. If near an exit, leave the building as soon as possible.
• After the Earthquake: -
1. Do not enter a damaged building
2. Shout only as a last resort. This will help you conserve energy
3. Use stairs and not lifts or elevators
Necessary arrangements for the publication/telecast/broadcast of the news item have to be made.
