The Government of Andaman and Nicobar on May 06, 2023, issued a notification regarding the Publication/ telecast of the News on Precautionary measures for impending Cyclonic weather condition
The following Precautionary measures have been stated namely: -
• Do’s
(i) Stay informed: Keep up to date with the latest weather forecasts and advisories issued by your local authorities.
(ii) Prepare an emergency kit: Have an emergency kit ready that includes non-perishable food, water, batteries, flashlights, a first aid kit, and any medications you or your family members might need.
(iii) Secure your property: Secure loose items around your property, such as
(iv) outdoor furniture, and make sure doors and windows are properly secured.
(v) Stay indoors: If you're in a cyclone-prone area, stay indoors during the storm and avoid going outside until it’s safe to do so.
(vi) Follow evacuation orders: If you're advised to evacuate, follow the instructions of local authorities and evacuate to a safe location.
(vii) Disconnect electrical appliances: Turn off all electrical appliances and disconnect them from power outlets to prevent electrical surges or fires.
• Don’ts
(i) Don't ignore warnings: Don't ignore cyclone warnings or advisories. Take them seriously and prepare accordingly.
(ii)Don't wait until the last minute: Don't wait until the last minute to prepare for a cyclone. Start preparing well in advance of the storm's arrival.
(iii)Don't drive through floodwaters: Don't attempt to drive through floodwaters, as even shallow water can be dangerous and cause your vehicle to be swept away.
(iv)Don't use candles: Don't use candles for lighting during a cyclone, as they pose a fire hazard.
(v) Don't stay in low-lying areas: Don't stay in low-lying areas, as they're more prone to flooding and storm surges.
(vi) Don't rely on mobile phones: Don't rely solely on mobile phones for communication during a cyclone, as power outages and network disruptions can occur. Have a battery-powered radio as a backup.
