The Government of Chhattisgarh on May 22, 2023, issued the Chhattisgarh Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2023, and will extend to the whole State of Chhattisgarh.
The foremost provisions are as stated:
• The head/In-charge of the organization shall ensure that there shall be no misuse of the rights of persons with disabilities and that such persons are not deprived of their benefits under the provisions of sub-section (3) of Section 3 of the Act.
• The State Government shall, by Notification, constitute a body to be known as the State Committee for Research on Disabilities.
• Any action of the committee shall not be illegal merely for reasons like the existence of a vacancy or any deficiency of the organizational committee.
• No person with disabilities shall be a subject of research unless there is some effect of research upon his body physically or mentally.
• Persons with disabilities shall have equal protection and safety in situations of risk, armed conflict, humanitarian emergencies, and natural disasters.
• State and District Election Officer shall ensure that all polling stations are accessible and barrier-free to persons with disabilities and that all materials related to the electoral process are easily understandable and accessible to them in Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha, Municipal, Panchayat, Co-operative, and all other election processes.
• Schools and training centers run by the concerned department of the State shall be developed to provide inclusive education to persons with disabilities and the concerned department shall issue appropriate directions to the departmental district officers as Nodal Officers.
This will come into force on May 22, 2023.
