The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) on June 05, 2023, issued a circular regarding Celebrating June 19th as the Day of Reading
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that the National Education Policy 2020 has emphasized reading as a key skill for Foundational Literacy & Numeracy, the contribution of reading in improving student learning outcomes has been demonstrated in various research studies.
• It states that Honouring the father of the Library Movement in Kerala the late Sri. P.N. Panicker, the Government of Kerala has been celebrating June 19 as the 'Day of Reading
• This initiative commenced in collaboration with the P.N. Panicker Foundation, During the 27th year of Reading Day/Month celebrations 2023, on June 19, 2023, a variety of events are supposed to be organized in physical and digital modes in Schools, Colleges, Libraries, and Panchayats which may include seminars, elocution, essay writing, mass runs, etc. to inculcate reading habit.
• It is requested to disseminate the aforesaid information and encourage 'Reading' among your academic fraternity, faculty members, and students and organize events in your Institution/University to celebrate the "Day of Reading" on June 19, 2023.
