The Government of Kerala on June 12, 2023, declared Seat belts mandatory for heavy vehicles from September 1, 2023.

Seat belts have been made mandatory for all heavy vehicles registered after 2005 from September 1, 2023. The 2 passengers in front of the lorries must also wear seat belts. If the buses have a cabin, the 2 people in the front must wear seat belts. In buses, if the seat is installed parallel to the driver's seat, the seat belt is also mandatory.
