Industry Specific ComplianceThe Telecom and Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on June 19, 2023, issued the TRAI release recommendations on 'Licensing Framework and Regulatory Mechanism for Submarine Cable Landing in India'.

The following has been stated namely: -

• Based on the comments/inputs received from the stakeholders during the consultation process on the paper ‘Licensing Framework and Regulatory Mechanism for Submarine Cable Landing in India,’ discussion held during OHD and further analysis of the issues, the Authority has finalized Recommendations on the same.

• The salient features of the recommendations are as follows: -

1. The changes required have been mentioned in Licensing/Regulatory Regime in view of the New Generation Submarine Cable System

2. Mentions the Ownership of submarine cable laying in India

3. Domestic submarine cables connecting two or more cities on the Indian coastline and setting up CLS for such cables to be allowed under NLD License! authorization

4. ILD and NLD licenses should explicitly mention that terrestrial connectivity between different CLSs is permitted.
