The Government of Sikkim on June 20, 2023, issued an Advisory to all stakeholders to desist from manufacturing, selling, and listing seat belt alarm stopper clips that compromise the safety of consumers.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that all the stakeholders including the Motor vehicle department, consumer organizations, NGOs, Industry Associations, Motor Vehicle dealers, garages, and other companies/ agencies that manufacture or sale of car seatbelts alarm stopper clips shall be strictly prohibited to prevent the loss of life or severe injury to consumers
• It advised that in case any person is found violating the above provision shall be liable to face actions in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act 2019
• If any consumer finds that a manufacturer or seller or e-commerce entity is manufacturing or selling any product such as seat belt alarm stopper clips or other products which compromise the safety of consumers, the concerned consumer may take the following actions namely: -
(i) Lodge a complaint on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH), which works as an alternate dispute resolution mechanism at the pre-litigation level by calling 1915 or through the NCH mobile app
(ii) Lodge a complaint on the Sikkim State Consumer Helpline (SSCH), which works as an alternate dispute resolution mechanism at the pre-litigation level by calling 03592-202675 or 1800-345-3209
(iii) File a complaint against Violation of consumer rights and unfair trade practices with the consumer commission, the complaint can also b filed electronically through the e-Daakhil portal www.edaakhil.nic.in for its speedy and effective redressal.
(iv) The complaint may also be sent to the CCPA by email at [email protected] for initiating class action.
