Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Power (MoP) on June 27, 2023,  issues a notification regarding the Revision of the Biomass Co-Firing Policy for enabling the purchase of biomass pellets by Power Plants at benchmark prices.

The following has been stated-

The benchmarked price shall take into account the business viability, impact on electricity tariff, and efficient & faster pellet procurement by power utilities. The benchmarked price will be effective from January 01, 2024.

 The power utilities shall go for short-term tenders for meeting the immediate requirement of biomass pellets for their Thermal Power Plants(TPPs) till the time the recommendations of the committee are implemented.

  With the enabling policies in place and thrust from MoP through the SAMARTH mission, substantial growth of Biomass cofiring in TPPs across the country is envisaged.
