The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) on July 06, 2023, notified the Flame-Producing Lighters (Quality Control) Order, 2023 under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
The order specifies the following: -
•The Flame-Producing Lighters having an Indian Standard IS/ISO 9994: 2018 will have a title that is Lighters – Safety Specification and for the Indian Standard IS/ISO 22702: 2018 title is Utility Lighters- Safety Specifications.
•The Bureau of Indian Standards shall be the certifying and enforcing authority for the Flame-Producing Lighters.
•Any person who contravenes the provisions of this Order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
•The order shall come into force with effect from six months from the date of notification.
