Labour ComplianceThe Government of Andhra Pradesh on July 07, 2023, issued a notification regarding standard operating procedure with operational guidelines and instructions for ease of compliance.

Industrial processes that lead to Accidents can be roughly divided into routine and irregular activities. Operations and processes that are related to production would be considered routine, whilst those that are dedicated to maintenance would be considered non-routine. The moment the plant is stopped and made available for repair, the safety precautions that have been put in place to ensure its safe operation shall become inactive and non-functional. Due to the sheer nature of some maintenance tasks, there is a high risk of mishaps. One of them is "Work in Confined Space.".

The Andhra Pradesh Factories Rules, 1950 and the Factories Act, 1948 both impose obligations on the owners and managers of factories that must provide "Confined Spaces" for employees to work in. Detailed guidelines/instructions are issued to factories in the State that are properly exercising the powers vested in the Director of Factories, Andhra Pradesh, in order to facilitate factory management in operationalizing the safety measures with much ease and better understanding in this regard and thereby to prevent accidents in confined spaces in the future. According to Annexures I and II, which are attached hereto, Rule 12-8 of the Andhra Pradesh Factories Rules, 1950.
