The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) on July 14, 2023, issued an addendum to Engineering Circular No. 6 of 2013, dated August 19, 2013, i.e, "Guidelines for maintenance and inspection of fire protection, detection, and extinction equipment on board Indian ships".
The following has been stated:
• After 6.4.4, para 6.4.5 has been inserted:
6.4.5 "Without being prejudiced to the provisions of para 6.4.2, "competent crewmembers" a coastal and near coastal vessels are to be construed as those crew-members who have completed Advanced Fire Fighting course and holding a management level Certificate of Competency as CEO/SEA for Near-Coastal Voyages."
