The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) on July 17, 2023, notified the Smart Meters (Quality Control) Order, 2023 under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
The order states the following: -
•In rule 2 it talks about the Compulsory use of Standard Mark which is allotted according to the table given in the order.
•In rule 3 it mentions the Certification and enforcing authority which is The Bureau of Indian Standards.
•In rule 4 the Penalty for contravention is given and it states that any person who contravenes the provisions of this Order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
The order shall come into force with effect from six months from the date of publication of this notification.
Provided that for Small Enterprises it shall come into force with effect from nine months from the date of publication of this notification
