The Government of Maharashtra on July 17, 2023, notified the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies (Second Amendment) Act, 2023 further to amend the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, 1960.
The following has been amended namely: -
•Amendment in Section 26 which specifies the rights and duties of members.
•In Section 27 a sub-section (1A) has been added which specifies that if an active member who fails to participate in the affairs of the society and to use the services or products up to the minimum level as specified, from time to time, in the by-laws, shall cease to be an active member and shall not be entitled to vote.
•The Maharashtra Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Ordinance, 2023, is repealed.
It shall be deemed to have come into force on June 07, 2023.
