
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on July 21, 2023, notified regarding NRI’s PAN still being inoperative.
If an NRI's PAN is still inoperative, he or she must inform the appropriate jurisdictional Assessing Officer of their NRI status and provide any necessary documentation.
The following is a list of the supporting documents needed to activate PAN for NRIs:
A copy of the PAN card; and B. Any of the following papers, a copy of a passport with a stay stamp confirming that the traveller is an NRI, a copy of a Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card issued by the Indian government, a copy of an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card issued by the Indian government, a copy of another national or citizenship Identification Number or Taxpayer Identification Number that has been duly attested by "Apostille" (in the case of nations that are signatories to the Hague.
