The Ministry of Civil Aviation on July 24, 2023, adopts guidelines for environmental protection developed by ICAO.
The following has been stated-
•AAI optimised airspace utilisation under FUA resulting in a reduction of CO2 emission.
•India, being a Member State of ICAO, is under obligation to comply with the mandatory phase of CORSIA from 2027.
•The MoP&NG has established a Bio-Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) Programme Committee to advance the Bio-ATF programme in the nation and encourage the usage of clean fuels in order to achieve the aims of decarbonization of the aviation sector. The Committee's mandate encompassed, among other things, the production and demand of raw materials, technology, BIS Standards, effects on engine performance, etc.
•The Ministry of Civil Aviation has written to the owners of all brownfield airports that are currently in operation and to the planners of future greenfield airports, advising them to strive for "Carbon Neutrality" and "Net Zero," as well as to obtain accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI/ISO 14064 through appointed verifiers) and implement carbon mitigation measures as soon as possible.
