Govt. of Tamil Nadu amended the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 1957

Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Tamil Nadu on August 30, 2023, published a notification regarding the amendment to the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 1957

The following has been amended namely: -

• In rule 5, for sub-rule (2) which provides for a copy of the Cinema Operator's Manual the following sub-rule shall be substituted, namely: -

 “(2) A copy of the Digital Projection Technician's Manual, which has been duly prepared by the licensee and attested by the Electrical Inspector, describing the routine, emergency and maintenance procedures and safety instructions to be followed shall be kept in the licensed premises.”

• In rule 7, which states the provisions to be complied with by the licensee 

(i) The expression “such of” shall be omitted

(ii) For the expression “Indian Electricity Act, 1910”, the expression “Electricity Act, 2003 (Central Act 36 of 2003)” shall be substituted

(iii) for the expression “Section 30”, the expression “Section 54” shall be substituted; 

(iv) For the expression “has to”, the expression “is to be” shall be substituted; 

• In Rule 11, which deals with the enclosure charge of an operator holding a license

(i) For sub-rule (1), the following sub-rule and proviso shall be substituted, namely: -

(ii)  “(1) (a) The enclosure shall be in charge of a Digital Projection Technician holding a license in Form "G" granted under, and in accordance with, the regulations in Appendix II by the Chief Electrical Inspector on the strength of a Certificate of Training in Form “H’’ issued by the Department of Employment and Training. 

(b) The Digital Projection Technician shall be present in the cinema premises monitoring the projection system during the whole period of operation of the projector. There shall be at least two Digital Projection Technicians in each theatre exhibiting three or more shows per day, and for theatres exhibiting up to two shows per day, the number of Digital Projection Technicians shall be one.

(iii) Provided that for multiplex theatres having a common enclosure and exhibiting three or more shows per day, there shall be two Digital Projection Technicians for every two screens.”;
