Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Goa, on September 14, 2023, issued a notification regarding the Policy for Regulating Iron Ore Dump Handling in the State of Goa

This policy supersedes the earlier Goa Mineral Policy of 2013 and outlines a comprehensive framework for managing mining dumps.

The following has been stated namely: -

• The policy applies to all dumps within the state, including tailing dumps, irrespective of whether they are part of the official inventory maintained by the Department of Mines and Geology. 

• It states that the dumps within successfully auctioned lease areas are exempted from this policy.

• This policy aims to regulate the handling of iron ore dumps in compliance with legal requirements and environmental considerations, providing a structured framework for their management and disposal in Goa.

• It states that the proceeds from dump mining will go to the government treasury, and the policy emphasizes environmental precautions to prevent harm to the surroundings. 

• It further states that the Rent/Occupation fees will be payable to the Government of Goa with respect to dumps situated on Government land at the rate as prescribed in the e-auction policy to be devised by the State of Goa.
