Industry Specific ComplianceThe Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) on September 21, 2023, issued a notification regarding the Consolidation of Requirements for Implementation of MARPOL Annex V.

The following has been stated: -

•MARPOL Annex V applies to all ships including fixed or floating platforms and non-propelled ships.

•General Prohibition on the discharge of garbage into the sea is given in Regulation 3 and Garbage includes all kinds of food wastes, domestic wastes and operational wastes, all plastics, cargo residues, incinerator ashes, cooking oil, fishing gear, and animal carcasses generated during the normal operation of the ship. The discharge of garbage into the sea from ships is prohibited, except in some limited circumstances as outlined in this Notice. The discharge into the sea of all plastics, including but not limited to synthetic ropes, synthetic fishing nets, plastic garbage bags, and incinerator ashes from plastic products is prohibited.

•All ships visiting Indian ports shall raise Advance Notification on the Swachh Sagar Portal as Port State control on operational requirements Regulation 9.

•For stakeholder comments can be submitted by October 03, 2023.
