Commercial ComplianceThe Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAFPD) on October 18, 2023, issued a notification regarding the Compliance of Packaging of Sugar in Jute packaging material and submission of monthly returns on the packaging of sugar in jute packaging material by sugar mills.

The following has been stated namely: -

• 20% of the total production of Sugar is to be mandatorily packed in the jute packaging material.

• The following is kept out of the purview of reservation namely: -

1. Sugar fortified with vitamins

2. Packaging for export of commodities

3. Small consumer packs of ten kilograms and below for foodgrains and twenty-five kilograms and below for sugar

4. Bulk packaging of more than one hundred kilograms

5. Sugar packed for export but which could not be exported on the basis of an assessment and recommendation by the Department of Food and Public Distribution.

• The correct information with respect to packaging details shall be filled in by all the sugar mills in their P-2 form.
