The Government of Goa on October 19, 2023, issued a notification regarding the Shack Policy for the erection of temporary seasonal structures, beach shack deck beds/umbrellas, for tourist Seasons 2023-26.
The following has been stated:
• Purpose of the Policy, Licenses shall be granted for:
1) Erection of temporary shacks at the identified public beach stretches as per Appendix 1.
2) Placement of deck beds, umbrellas, tables, chairs, and sofa sets on the identified public beach stretches.
3) The number of beach shacks to be permitted at the identified beach stretches shall be subject to the approval/recommendation of the Goa State Pollution Control Board, Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority, or any other competent authorities.
• Tenure of the License:
5.1. For beach shacks and deck beds:
(a) The License issued under this policy shall be valid for one tourist season 2023-24 and further renewable for Tourist seasons 2024-25 and 2025-26 respectively.
(b) In case of adverse weather conditions, beach protection, or other public interest activities, the DOT reserves the authority to withdraw the permission granted for shack license and/or deck beds before the specified date, and the shack allottee will not be entitled to any form of compensation.
