Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Power on October 20, 2023, issued a notification regarding Mandating the Consumption of energy from non-fossil fuels (renewable energy) by designated consumers as Electricity Distribution Companies Captive Power Plants and Open Access Consumers.

The following has been stated:

• The consumption of electricity from sources other than distribution licensee as a percentage of their total share of energy consumption is specified in the table.

• Any shortfall in achievement of stipulated wind renewable energy consumption in a particular year may be met with hydro renewable energy which is more than that energy component for that year and vice-versa.

• The balance of excess energy consumption under wind renewable energy or hydro renewable energy components in that year may be considered part of other renewable energy components.

• The Bureau shall maintain data related to compliance of renewable energy utilization by the designated consumer(s) and submit a report to the Central Government.

This notification will come into force from April 01, 2024.
