The Government of Haryana on October 23, 2023, issued the Haryana Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2023 to further amend the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994.
The following amendment has been stated:
• In section 6, which states “Fixation of seats of Corporation”:
(i) For sub-section (1), the following sub-section shall be substituted and shall be deemed to have been substituted with effect from May 16, 2023, namely:
"(1) The total number of seats for each Corporation shall, on such date as may be notified by the Government, be equal to the number of population obtained from the Family Information Data Fund established under the provisions of the Haryana Family Identification Act, 2021 (20 of 2021). Will be fixed by the Government on the basis:
Provided that where the population obtained from the Family Information Data Repository is less than 140% of the number of voters registered in such areas as per the last published voter list, then a population equal to 140% of the number of voters in the voter list of the area shall be considered."
