The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (MoC&F) on October 25, 2023, issued the Operational Guidelines of the Scheme for Human Resource Development in the Medical Device Sector.
The following has been stated: -
•The scheme is expected to educate/ train around 5,400 students over a period of 3 years which will help in bridging the gap between industry and academia, provide a skilled workforce to the industry, and help in developing research & development ecosystem for the medical device sector.
•The scheme aims to fulfill the objectives of the Medical Device Policy, which include reaching a $50 billion market size by 2030 and reducing India's dependence on imported high-end medical devices.
•The scheme aims to develop a specialized and skilled workforce tailored to the requirements of the medical device sector.
•The Scheme has the following two components: Component A: Support for running postgraduate courses (MS/MTech/ PG-Diploma) in Medical Devices in existing institutes.
Component B: Capacity development in Medical Devices - design, production and testing.
•The duration of the scheme will be for a period of 3 years concurrent with the 15th Finance Commission from FY 2023-24 to FY 2025-26 (with the financial outlay of the scheme adjusted as per graduation of the last batch.
•The applicant institutions will be selected based on their Proposals for financial assistance for Postgraduate (MSc/MTech/ PG Diploma) and Certification/Training courses submitted in the prescribed format, highlighting the learning outcomes against each course curriculum, core or optional, and the practical-hands-on- exposure given to the students on predefined objective criteria to assess their eligibility.
