The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) on October 25, 2023, notified the Draft Methodology for Tree Plantation-based Green Credit.
The following has been stated: -
•Type of Project- Tree plantation (except mangroves)
•Project Proponent -Eligible project proponents: All persons and entities including individuals/FPOs/Cooperatives/Forest Management Committees/Sustainable Agricultural Enterprises/SHGs/Eco-development committees/Urban and rural local bodies.
•Site Selection Any patch of Government/Panchayat/community land/individual land suitable for plantation.
•Any tree plantation projects covered under any existing/new laws, as amended will also get registered under the Green Credit Rules, 2023, and may trade/generate the GCs generated as mandated under these laws/regulations.
The objections or suggestions may be received from any person with respect to the notification within 15 days from the date of publication of the draft in the official Gazette which is October 27, 2023.
