The Ministry of Power (MoP) on October 26, 2023, issued a notification regarding the Energy Performance Standards for star labelled Washing Machine (with or without heating devices utilizing cold or hot water supply) for household and similar use.
The following has been stated:
• Every washing machine being manufactured, imported, or sold in India shall,-
(a) meet the compliance standards as specified under the scope of IEC 60456:2010 (as amended from time to time);
(b) meet the minimum requirement for, if any, -
(i) Wash performance;
(ii) Rinse performance;
(iii) Energy Consumption;
(iv) Water consumption; and
(v) Water extraction performance (residual water content).
• This energy consumption standard does not apply to.-
(a) appliance intended exclusively for industrial purposes;
(b) washing machines for commercial laundries; and
(c) appliance intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas).
The star rating shall be based on per-cycle energy consumption per kg (kilowatt hour per cycle per kilogram), with energy consumption measured as per methodology specified in IEC 60456:2010 as amended from time to time if any.
This will be effective from January 01, 2024.
