The Government of Tamil Nadu on October 26, 2023, issued a notification regarding amendments in the Tamil Nadu Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 1959.
The amendment is as follows: -
•In the Rules. - in rule 2 which lays down various definitions, for clause (5-AA) the following clause shall be substituted, namely: - "(5-AA) "Granite waste" means irregular pieces of granite which are not capable of being sold as dimensional granite block and may be used as road metal or raw material for the production of manufactured sand or for any other purpose.
•In rule 8-A which talks about lease on quarries to private persons in respect of granite, the sub-rule (13) shall be omitted.
•In rule 8-C which talks about the Quarrying of granite by the state government, after sub-rule (10), the following sub-rule shall be added, namely: - "(11) Granite waste may be sold as road metal or raw material for the production of manufactured sand or for any other purpose with the permission of the District Collector. The rate of seigniorage fee for granite waste shall be Rs. 100/- (Rupees one hundred only) per tonne."
