The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on November 02, 2023, issued a notification regarding Customer awareness and engagement for UPI LITE Enablement and Top-up.
The objective of introducing UPI LITE was to reduce the need for infrastructure scale-up at the bank end to cater to the growing volumes of UPI small-value transactions UPI LITE is fast and seamless, an UPI PIN is not required to complete the transaction. In addition, UPLITE reduces the demand for the availability of the issuer infrastructure for completing the transaction and hence provides better success rates.
All UPI Apps live on UPI LITE shall implement & comply with the above actions by November 21, 2023.
