The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on November 10, 2023 issued the Draft National Pharmacy Commission Bill, 2023
This Bill aims to provide for a pharmacy education system that improves access to quality and affordable pharmacy or pharmaceutical education and ensures the availability of adequate and high-quality pharmacy professionals in all parts of the country.
The following has been stated namely: -
• This bill shall extend to the whole of India
• It states that The Central Government shall constitute the Commission, having perpetual succession and a common seal, with power, subject to the provisions of this Act, to acquire, hold, and dispose of property, both movable and immovable, and to contract, and shall, by the said name, sue or be sued.
• The Commission may make regulations for the purposes of performing the following functions, namely: –
(a)to frame policies and regulate standards for the governance of pharmacy education and training.
(b) to regulate pharmacy institutions, researchers, professionals, and associates.
(c)to identify and regulate any other category of pharmacy profession
(d) to provide basic standards of education, physical and instructional facilities, assessment, examination, training, research, continuing professional education, and maximum tuition fee payable in respect of various categories
(e) to provide standards for pharmacy faculty and clinical facilities in teaching institutions.
(f) to provide a uniform mechanism for admission into the pharmacy.
