The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I) on November 14, 2023, issued the Draft Calcium Carbide (Amendment) Rules, 2023, to further amend the Calcium Carbide Rules, 1987.
The following amendments have been stated:
• In Rule 25, which states “Carbide to be commercially pure” the words ― “with or” have been deleted.
• Rule 26, which states “Licence for storage” have been substituted with the following namely:
“26 Licence for storage – (1) No person shall store any carbide except under a license granted under these Rules:
Provided that no license shall be required for storage of carbide –
(a) Temporarily within port limits under such conditions as the Conservator of the port may specify,
(b) While in transit under the custody of railway administration or road transport agency;
(c) In the possession of the Defence Forces of the Union;”
Objections or suggestions with respect to the draft if any will be considered within 45 days from November 14, 2023.

This notification will come into force from November 14, 2023.
