The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I) on November 23, 2023, issued the Legal Metrology- Material Measures of Length (Quality Control) Order, 2023.
The following provisions have been stated:
• Conformity to standard and Compulsory use of Standard Marks:
Goods or articles specified in the Table shall conform to the corresponding Indian Standard specified in the said Table and shall bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018:
Provided that nothing in this order shall apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export.
Provided that in relation to micro-enterprises, as defined in clause (h) and (m) respectively of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), it shall come into force on the expiry of 12 months from November 23, 2023.
Provided that in relation to small enterprises, as defined in clause (h) and (m) respectively of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), it shall come into force on the expiry of 9 months from the date of publication of this notification.
• Certification and enforcement authority:
The Bureau shall be the certifying and enforcing authority for the goods or articles specified in the Table.
• Penalty for contravention:
Any person who contravenes the provisions of this Order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
This notification will come into force on the expiry of 6 months from November 23, 2023.
