The Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) on November 30, 2023, notified the Van (Sanrakshan Evam Samvardhan) Rules, 2023 in supersession of the Forest (Conservation) Rules, 2022.
They shall come into force on December 01, 2023.
The following has been stated-
•It provides that the de-reservation of reserved forests, use of forest land for non-forest purposes, assigning forest land by way of lease or otherwise to a private entity, and clearing of naturally grown trees for the purpose of re-afforestation requires prior permission of the Central Government.
•To achieve the country’s national as well as international commitment s of NDCs, carbon neutrality, eliminate the ambiguities, and bring clarity about the applicability of the Act in various lands, promoting the plantation in non-forest land, enhancing the productivity of the forests, this bill has been introduced.
